Green Logistics

Green Logistics aims at creating transportation and handling processes in an environmentally sound manner. To achieve sustainable processes, logistics companies should initially get a general idea about the GHG emissions of their processes. For this reason the ITL participates in national and international research projects to develop standardized methods and tools which support companies to calculate the CO2-equivalents of their logistics processes and thereby to draw up a carbon footprint (e.g. COFRET, CO2-Method kit). To allow a pragmatic solution the underlying calculation method considers the database typically available in logistics companies. Moreover, the method is standardized to ensure an industry-wide consistent approach and associated therewith comparable results. Based upon GHG values the ITL can identify strong emission drivers within companies as well as in whole transport and supply chains and derive adequate mitigating measures (e.g. SuperGreen).
